Vegan Glory
Last week's movie night was such a success I'm doing it again, and this week it's Mondo Krofft-o! It'll be the weirdest Krofft clips followed by the feature length Pufnstuf movie!!!
If you grew up in the 1970s or 1980s you probably saw one of the odd Krofft TV shows...
To quote from the Cinefamily site:
"Land of The Lost". "Lidsville". "The Bugaloos" and more! With their day-glo landscapes, cardboard set pieces, and colorful cavalry of life-size puppet creatures, the loveably warped works of Sid and Marty Krofft are a picture window onto a bygone era of adventurous American children's programming. From a land lost in time to a land inhabited by walking, talking hats, to a kiddy show starring (yes, really) Richard Pryor and his foam-formed friends, part of the joy of revisiting the Kroffts' wacky high-concept, low-budget universe is marveling at a time when shows like these were not only green-lit but widely successful. Armed with a contagious sense of childlike make-believe, these shows never fail to warm the most hardened heart -- so take a trip with us, as we guide you to our favorite locales in the Krofft cornucopia, capped off by a 35mm show of Pufnstuf, the rarely-screened 1970 feature version of perhaps their most influential and mind-blowing creation, "H.R. Pufnstuf".
So, the fabulous Vegan Glory in Hollywood for an early dinner at 6 pm, followed by the short drive to the Silent Movie Theatre. Showing starts at 8 pm. You can come for the dinner but not the movie, or the movie but not the dinner, but you MUST post your intention in your RSVP comment.
For those who don't know, the showings at the Silent Movie Theatre work like this... If we get there early (7:10-ish) we can probably get some of their ultra comfy couches (warning: they are either leather or a very convincing pleather). The Silent Movie Theatre is a cool place with great snacks and nifty people, so showing up early doesn't suck. At 8 pm they'll show the short feature, and probably have someone who was involved in it or was an expert in it introduce it. Then there'll be a 15' - 20' break where you can go out to their nice patio, chat, maybe have a drink, then they'll do another quick introduction and start the main feature.
And a reminder about our new rules. 'Yes' means yes; if you RSVP yes, you better show up! And, regular members get preferential treatment, so get on the waiting list, email me that you want in, and to a point I'll bump the size of the group and put you in.

Sorry I had to leave early last time. Did Dorothy and Toto make it to see the wizard??
